When designing your pond, do the fittings you chose in the plumbing system really make a difference?
Well, here's a couple things to consider. You may have you own pool or been at a friends and seen thier pool filtration with it's "hard nineties" and "high head" pressure pump. Or you may have visited your friends "pond-in-a-box" and witnessed the same hard nineties. Remember the typical pool is filtered maybe 4-6 hours a day so the use of high efficiency fittings is usually not taken into consideration, and your friends pond, well, most "home improvement" stores don't carry high efficiency "long sweep" fittings.
You may be asking yourself, how much of a differencecan there be? Well considering your pond will be operating 24/7365. even a small reduction in head loss can make a difference in operating expenses.
Making the right turn.
When making a ninety degree turn in your plumbing there's really only three choices, 1) a standard Schedule 40/80 ninety(hard ninety) 2) 2-forty five degree fittings glued "back to back", or 3) a "long sweep" Schedule 40 fitting.
Of the three choices, independent testing has shown a 8.45% increase in flow between the hard ninety and double forty fives. A 3.38% increase between double forty fives and long sweeps and a 12.11% increase in flow between a hard ninety and a long sweep.
This increase in flow can relate to using a smaller pump(reducing energy usage) or increasing your current flow with the pump you have.
OK,Where do I find these "long sweep" fittings? Look no further
